Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB)

Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) is a national trade body representing all mobile telecom operators in Bangladesh. AMTOB has emerged as the official voice for the Bangladesh mobile Industry for interacting with relevant government agencies, regulators, financial institutions, civil society, technical bodies, media and other national and international organizations. It provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas between the stakeholders and industry actors for the development of mobile telecom industry through public private dialogue. AMTOB facilitates an environment which is conducive for its members and industry stakeholders with a view to establish a world class cellular infrastructure for delivering benefits of affordable mobile telephony services to the people of Bangladesh to eliminate digital divide.

  • Background
    • AMTOB was established in 2001 as a non-government society. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of modern communication through the establishment of a world-class cellular infrastructure and to delivering the benefits of all kinds of mobile communication services to the people of Bangladesh.

      AMTOB membership is comprised of all cellular operators, namely –Banglalink, Citycell, Grameenphone, Robi, and Teletalk.

      AMTOB is working with all stakeholders involved in Bangladesh’s telecommunication sector and economic development. AMTOB firmly believes that telecommunication is one of the key contributors for socio-economic development of a country. In a short span of time Bangladesh’s cellular mobile industry has emerged as a key contributor in the country’s economy.

      Over the years AMTOB has emerged as the official voice of the Bangladesh telecom Industry and interacts directly with Ministries, Policy Makers, Regulators, Financial Institutions and Technical Bodies. It provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas between these bodies and Service Providers, who share a common interest in the development of cellular mobile telephony. AMTOB also collaborates with other Industry Associations such as BASIS, BCS, ISPAB, with the objective of presenting an industry consensus view to the Government on crucial issues relating to the growth and development of the Bangladesh Cellular Industry.

      AMTOB also interacts with various international organizations such as ITU, GSMA, APT, APAC, UMTS, WWRF, 3GPP, etc. as well as the Press & Media to ensure that the issues pertaining to the cellular industry are discussed, understood and debated on a wider platform.

      It is worth mentioning that Bangladesh is recognized as one of the top mobile network covered countries due to the regular investment by the mobile carriers. The carriers have already reached the rural areas with the latest 4G technology and are upgrading on a regular basis. In the near future, the sector will introduce the cutting-edge 5G technology.

      AMTOB truly brings with it a commonality of purposes and achievement of common objectives for the growth and protection of this sector.
